Jute Rugs

The art of jute rugs weaving dates back many thousands years - perfectly dyed jute rugs have been found in Neolithic remains. Some hundreds years ago jute rugs weaving was a tradition of native craftsmen from South of Asia. In such countries as Bangladesh, India, Nepal jute rugs are still widely used.

In the eighteenth century these beautiful jute rugs were popular in the British Empire. Throughout history jute rugs have been valued for their capacity to take and hold beautiful colors. The internal fibers of a jute stalk are very soft after retting, cleaning and combing and being spun into yarn.

Even though the fiber of jute is soft it is very strong and durable. Natural jute varies in colors from light tans to browns – every colour is clearly visible in each jute rug. Perhaps the most interesting capacity is that jute rugs can change in color under direct sunlight. Juts rugs can be easily cleaned by shampooing or dry-cleaning.

The fiber of jute rugs also has a natural sheen that keeps the look of fine silk.
