Modern Rugs

Modern rugs can be either hand-made or factory-made. Modern rugs are made of wool, silk, leather, animal skin and more. Usually modern carpets are piled. Carpets are used for covering floors or you may create decorations with them.
At first let’s know about what is the difference between modern rugs and mats or gobelins.

In modern rugs, threads of pile are fastened off with knots. At the same time gobelins have no knots, threads are dragged through the base and these threads are nailed down to each other by using special fork.
Commonly there are two kinds of surfaces in modern rugs. Modern rugs are weaved, using very difficult, accurate technique, with a mathematical precision.

Usually, computer-aided design (CAD for short) is used in their manufacturing. On the contrary to modern rugs, gobelins are weaved quite arbitrary. Mats differ from modern rugs in the method of threads interweaving (it is very similar to that in tapestry).

Also mats are manufactured of sisal (dried fibers of agave), but nevertheless, mats are prototypes of modern rugs.
