Persian Rugs

All Persian rugs in the world are divided into those who have pile and those who have not. For pileless Persian rugs’ turn they are subdivided into so called “sumachs” and “kilims”. These types of pileless rugs date back to the early 7th century. Their beautiful names mean only technological features.

At first let us know about mats. A mat is the first floor covering in the history of humanity. Many years ago, mats were more alike modern carpets than they are now. Their pile was fastened off to the woven base with knots. Persian rugs belong to pileless, hand-made rugs.

Usually, Persian rugs have no technological or wrong side. While weaving Persian rugs, coloured thread is used. As a result a surface of Persian rugs is double-sided. Persian rugs can be used as floor covering as well as tablecloth, bedspread or drapery. The absence of pile allows to put heavy furniture on Persian rugs, without detriment to the surface.

As a rule Persian rugs are very light and easy-clean. Persian rugs are only hand-made and that is why they are very expensive.
